Coronavirus Home Learning

A very warm "Hello" to all year four children, parents and guardians. I hope that you are all doing well and surviving the ongoing "Lockdown" period.

During these times of uncertainty we still expect our pupils to carry on their learning at home. Please check this page on a regular basis for tasks that will be set for your child. The children should have already received a work book and pencil to complete any tasks set. I have also sent home their "Active Learn-Phonics Bug" workbooks to assist their reading and writing, along with their "Read Write Inc" purple spelling books to work through. May I recommend that you scroll all the way through this page to gain maximum benefit of the resources available.

It's important to note that the children DO NOT need to do all of the work at once. I will probably set weekly tasks within other subjects that they can carry out in their own time - click on the individual Curriculum Stars for ideas.

For example, if you click on the Daily Lesson "GOLD STAR" you will have access to the timetabled TWINKL lessons which are updated daily. Also below you will find the National Online Lesson Schedule and the full set of Joe Wicks PE lessons. Just click on the designated star or "WWW" link to view a host of prepared lessons and relevant resources.

Additionally, I am delighted to promote the BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons, which commenced on Monday 20th April 2020. Feel free to explore the link and enjoy all of the sessions on offer. I have also included some more traditional family games should you wish to pursue them at your leisure.

If you have any questions about the work set then please don't hesitate to call in and leave a message at the office either first thing or at the end of the day and I will endeavour to respond as soon as possible.

May I once again thank you for your continued help, patience, support and understanding throughout these rather testing times. Remember to stay safe by following the current government guidelines and recommendations.

Bitesize Daily Lessons: Upcoming Lessons

As we head towards the end of the summer term, I'd like to remind you that the fantastic BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons are still being generated. With that in mind, here's a link with the lesson titles for the next two weeks on the Daily Lessons schedule.  Please click on a title to see the lesson.

Mark the birthday of the NHS

On Sunday 5 July 2020, you can mark the birthday of the NHS by joining together to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who is helping us through the current crisis, from nurses and carers to friends, family and teachers.

Download your favourite template from the options below.

We have even created a special Premier League template for you to download and colour in. Or you can take inspiration from these designs and create your own! Let’s say as many thank yous as we possibly can, to everyone who is helping us through this, together.

RNLI resources for KS2 -The day I fell in

Teach children about staying safe near water, and boost their creative writing skills, with this great activities pack from the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). With the help of specially recorded soundscapes, and an interactive set of slides to start them thinking, they are encouraged to write a short story about falling into the water in one of a choice of four settings, using all their senses to ‘show, not tell’.

The RNLI has a great education offer for schools, including more downloadable resources like this, videos, and educational visit opportunities*, as well as creative fundraising ideas. Find out more by visiting the website, here

A pack for children in KS1 (Years 1 and 2), also produced with the RNLI, and focusing on descriptive writing, is available here

Lockdown Poetry - Writing a Haiku

How can I encourage my child to write poetry?

This lock-down poetry pack encourages children to create their own lock-down haiku: a simple poetic structure that follows a pattern of syllables/sounds in its three short verses.

Creating a lock-down poem may be a good way for you and your child to discuss their feelings about the current social situation. A simple but very effective poetry pack that is perfect for a home environment.

Challenge Be Kind Challenge

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme for this year is ‘kindness’. Based on this theme, ex-Premier League footballer and TV presenter Dion Dublin is here to explain what we’d like you to do for this week’s Friday Challenge:

Play Video

https://plprimarystars.com/news/friday-family-challenge?utm_campaign=1906280_HL%20Sunday%20email%2024.05.20&utm_medium=email&utm_source=edcoms&dm_i=3VTU,14UW8,2V0H0M,404OI,1

This week, we would like you to list some acts of kindness that you and your family will carry out over the coming week.

This could include clapping for the NHS and carers on Thursday at 8pm, checking on someone who may be isolated at the moment by giving them a call, simply thanking your parents for all of their help with your home learning or helping out with a household chore.

To help you to set your goals, you may want to download our Kindness Goals worksheet to write down the acts of kindness you will aim to do and see which ones you can achieve.

Tell us how you’ve been making a positive difference by sharing your acts of kindness with us on Twitter at @PLCommunities with #PLPrimaryStars or via email at PLPrimaryStars@premierleague.com. You could send in a video of your act of kindness, or simply share your completed Kindness Goals worksheet with us. Whatever you choose to share, you could end up being featured on PremierLeague.com or in our community story, so make sure to get in touch!

Complete The Speech Challenge

Complete the Speech challenge

Roving Reporters Challenge

For this week's new challenge with the Premier League and Sky VIP, our pupils can become sports journalists! Based on our clip of a Wolves vs Newcastle game, we'd like YOU to write an exciting match report to document what happened.

One lucky entrant who shares their match report with us will win the opportunity to take part in a video call Q&A with former Premier League footballer and presenter Jamie Carragher!

Get involved and GOOD LUCK!

Super Movers Celebration Challenge 13

This week, Super Movers stars and dancing duo HomeBros are here to introduce our latest challenge that will get everybody moving!

To celebrate the Premier League season restarting this week, we'd like your pupils to create their own 'Super Move' to film and share with us for the chance to win a special Premier League prize. Whether it's a single move or whole routine, we want your pupils to get creative!

Challenge 12: Everyday Numbers Challenge

Numbers can be found everywhere in football – from match results to player shirt numbers and more. For this week’s challenge, we want you to go on a number hunt and make a note of all the numbers you see or use in a day.

TV and radio presenter Lauren Layfield is here to explain more about what we’d like your family to do this week: Play Video

Using our Number timeline worksheet, you can record where, when and which numbers you see as you go about your day. There are two timelines for you to try - for older children, download the higher level worksheet and draw your number-related activities next to the correct time. Feel free to get creative by decorating it with pictures or even make it into a collage.

Challenge 11: Try Your Best Challenge

For this week’s challenge, we would like you to have a go at mastering a new active skill by practising it every day for five minutes. This challenge is based on resilience and always trying your best. TV presenter Gabby Logan is here to tell you how to get involved.

https://plprimarystars.com/news/friday-family-challenge?utm_campaign=1915430_HL%20Sunday%20email%2007.06.20&utm_medium=email&utm_source=edcoms&dm_i=3VTU,151YE,2V0H0M,40YHC,1

Your new active skill could be anything from learning to juggle, throwing a ball into a basketball net backwards, skipping - whatever interests you! Why not try some of these ideas from Premier League football clubs in our Try Your Best: Football tricks activity sheet.

When learning your new skill, make sure you have a safe area that you can practise in.

Whatever you choose, why not show us how you progress by filling out our progress tracker worksheet each day, or filming yourself on Day 1 and Day 7 to demonstrate what you’ve achieved throughout the week. Even a small amount of practice each day can make a big difference. Remember to maintain a positive attitude and keep going, even if you don’t succeed at first.
