We had a great day at MOSI, the Museum of Science and Industry, in Manchester. We had fun in the experiment area, visited some old engines and explored the history of aeroplanes. We also attended a brilliant Magic show session where we learnt about tricks of the light...one child even got their head chopped off!

Come and See

Our current topic in Come and See is Pentecost. We have considered the power of fire and wind and how the disciples might have felt when 'tongues of fire' landed on them. We wrote our ideas on our very own (paper) flames.

You can read about Pentecost yourself in the book of Acts, chapter two.

The Ascension of Jesus

We learnt about the Ascension of Jesus and considered how the disciples might have felt when their friend left them. We acted out our thoughts in a drama activity. Have a look at some of the pictures below.

You can read about the Ascension of Jesus yourself in the book of Luke, chapter 24.

50 Then he led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where he raised his hands and blessed them. 51 As he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up into heaven. 52 They worshiped him and went back into Jerusalem, filled with great joy, 53 and spent all their time in the Temple giving thanks to God.

Luke 24:50-53 (GNT)

Numeracy Lessons

We learn lots of different things in our maths lessons. A key focus for Year Three is to learn the four and eight times tables.  There is a link to the eight times table song at the bottom of this page.

We like to learn in practical ways, both in and outside the classroom. Below are some pictures from our maths challenge day.

Learning Roman numerals

Literacy Lessons

We are currently learning about discussion texts. We have learnt how to write a balanced discussion that shows different viewpoints. The story of the three little pigs has helped us with this.

Do you think the wolf is good or bad? Why?

We we had a class discussion to try and decide. From this we concluded that the wolf should be set free!

We recently learnt about Paddington. Paddington is a bear from darkest Peru and his stories have been written by Michael Bond.

Which of the Paddington adventures is your favourite?

Paddington has been out and about. Keep looking here for pictures of his adventures both in and out of school.

We are making our own Paddington film based on the original stop animation films. We have been very busy making our own backdrops and characters. We have also turned the story into a script to read whilst we film.

Paddington went ice skating... he found it very slippery!

We learnt how to use a story mountain to structure our stories. We then wrote our own myths, legends and fables.

Smile Poems

We learnt a poem about smiling smiley

We worked in groups to create actions for each part.

After this, we performed it as a class. Finally, we wrote our own poems about smiling and what makes us happy.

Look at our videos and pictures to see some of us performing the poem we learnt and one

of our own poems that we created.

Acting out George and the Dragon

Remember, punctuation is important!

Science lessons

In our current topic we are learning about plants. We are learning about the structure of plants, how they grow, pollination and the way seeds are dispersed. The pictures below show some outdoor lessons where we acted out how pollination occurs and a leaf hunt that we undertook on our school field.

P.E. Lessons

Throwing Skills

We are really good at running, throwing and jumping. If you look carefully at these pictures, you will see that it looks as though we are floating!
We learnt how to hold our hands to send and receive the ball.
We worked in groups to join travelling and balancing movements to create our circus dance.

Learning Outside the Classroom

Drawing parallel and perpendicular lines

Special Events

At St Francis of Assisi we have lots of special events.

Here are pictures of some of those.

Visiting the chicks in the EYFS

We had a great time at our Christmas party. Below are some pictures of some of the fun things we did.

We've been busy making Christmas hats!

Happy Christmas!

We had lots of fun dressing up to raise money for Children in Need!

Children in Need day

Liverpool Museum

We had a fantastic visit to Liverpool Museum. We visited all areas of the museum and learnt even more about Egypt. It was a wonderful day for everyone in years three and four. Below are some pictures from our visit.

Aquarium

For Global Week we studied Egypt. We learnt about what Egypt was like many years ago and made outfits based on what we had learnt. We researched modern Egypt and thought about what it would be like to go on holiday there. After this, we made persuasive leaflets to persuade people to go. We also turned into food critics and sampled breads from Egypt and around the world. To finish, we took part in the parade in the school hall where we shared some interesting facts about Egypt with the rest of the school.
We really enjoyed meeting all the animals when Acorn Farm came to visit. Here are some pictures of us meeting and feeding the animals.
