Picture a story

We were visited by an illustrator called Lee who came in to show us how to draw pictures for our own story.

The Bug Man

It was very exciting when Phil, 'The Bug Man', came in to see us.  He brought different creepy crawlies with him including an African tarantula, leopard gecko, large snails and two snakes.  It was lots of fun holding the creatures and learning some interesting facts.

A teddy bear's picnic

The children were awarded with a teddy bear's picnic for working so hard and for being so well behaved. They all brought in their teddy bears.  We all went down on to the field for some treats and then played some games.

Fencing

All the children have had the opportunity to take part in fencing lessons, with Mike.  They all have enjoyed these lessons and felt very grown up using the equipment.

Jude Lennon

The children enjoyed a lovely visit from author Jude Lennon.

She read a couple of her stories to the children and answered some of their questions.

We have all had a lovely break over Christmas and have come back to school ready for our learning.

Over the next few weeks we will be reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt.  We will be learning to write in full sentences using capital letters and full stops.  Some of us will also be learning to use 'and' and 'because' in our writing to stretch our sentences.  Using our reading skills we will be answering questions about what we have read and using inference to talk about the characters.

In Maths we will be practising counting in 5s and 10s as well as practising our number formation.

We had lots of fun learning about potatoes and where they come from.  We learnt how they are sorted and about how we can eat more healthily too.

This week we have started our new Maths scheme, 'Singapore Maths', which has allowed the children to engage in lots of practical learning and maths talk.  We have started our topic, 'Ourselves', by singing 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' and have identified the parts of the body we already know by labelling some of our friends in class.  In Come & See we have been talking about families and how we feel when we are with ours.

Check out our photos!

We've been very busy this week...

Talking about our families.

In English we have been learning about labels...

Please ensure your child has their PE kits in school.  We have PE on Mondays and Thursdays.
